Our History
More than six decades of
innovation and growth.
Founded in 1961 in Petersburgh, New York, Taconic began with a breakthrough idea that helped shape the future of PTFE coated fiberglass materials. What started as a small family business has grown into a global manufacturing organization serving industries around the world.
From expanding into Europe and South America to opening new production facilities across North America and acquiring additional manufacturing capabilities in Italy, Taconic’s history reflects a continuous commitment to engineering high-performance coated material solutions and finding better ways to support our customers.
1961
Taconic was founded by Lester T. Russell, widely recognized for developing the process of applying PTFE to woven fiberglass. What began with Lester and Virginia Russell has grown into a global organization headquartered in Petersburgh, New York.
Today, Taconic manufactures PTFE coated glass fabrics, PTFE tapes, skived PTFE tapes, silicone coated glass fabrics, and conveyor belts for industrial applications including food processing, packaging, automotive, composites, and aerospace.
1972
Lester Russell served as company president until his retirement in 1972. The Russell family’s involvement continued through the next generation, with Gordy Russell joining the business in the mid-1960s and Andy Russell continuing that legacy as CEO.

1977
Taconic expanded internationally with the founding of Taconic International in Mullingar, Ireland. This location supported manufacturing and sales outside the Americas and became a key part of Taconic’s growth across Europe.
1990s
During the 1990s, Taconic continued to expand its global manufacturing footprint. Taconic UK was opened to support industrial belting demand, and a new manufacturing facility was added in Brazil in 1997.

1997
Taconic France was established in Doussard, near Annecy, strengthening Taconic’s ability to serve customers throughout France and surrounding European markets.
2002
Taconic Germany opened near Cologne to directly serve one of Europe’s largest industrial markets with belts, rolls, tapes, and technical support.

2004
Taconic UK operations moved to Burgess Hill in West Sussex, where Taconic Wildcat added further expertise in industrial belting and fabricated solutions.
2005
Taconic’s Mullingar, Ireland operations moved into a modern coating, belting, and conversion facility to support continued growth and manufacturing capability.

2010
Taconic Poland opened in Kostrzyn nad OdrÄ… near the German border, increasing coating capacity and belt manufacturing capabilities for Poland and the broader European market.
2024
Taconic opened a new fabrication facility in Arteaga, Mexico, expanding regional production support and strengthening the company’s ability to serve customers across Mexico, Central America, and the broader North American market.

2025
Taconic acquired Arcari in Limbiate, Italy, expanding production capabilities and product offerings in Europe. This addition strengthened Taconic’s regional manufacturing presence and enhanced support for customers across European markets.
Today
Taconic is an industry leading global manufacturer of PTFE coated glass fabrics, adhesive tapes, silicone coated fabrics, and conveyor belts.
